Born Alive Abortion Survivor Protection Petition
On April 16, 2019, the NC Legislature passed a bill to protect born-alive infant survivors of attempted abortion. Recognizing the right to life of the infant survivor, the bill specifically provides for life-saving healthcare and prohibits the neglectful or overt killing of the newly born baby.
The bill passed both chambers with mostly Republican support, but six brave Democrats - two Senators and four House Representatives - also signed on to the bill.
This bill was vetoed on April 18 by Governor Cooper. The Governor asserts that there is no need for such protections, even though there is a movement of abortion survivors trying to assert their human rights. Cooper and NC Democrats are already fundraising off this unconscionable veto.
Governor Cooper says the fact these humans have survived proves there is no need for the newly codified protections. We say those who do not survive post-abortive neglect or worse - killing - have no voice in this debate and they deserve one.
Help us be their voice! We support a veto-override by the Legislature with a 100% voice defense of each vote. North Carolinians have the right to know where each of their legislators stand on this moral issue. Please join us in getting this message out to our Legislature and to our Governor.
